On January  4th 2026, the Somali Immigrant Service Society of Alberta (SISSA) has successfully hosted a one-day Immigrant Winter Safety event made possible through winter grant funding from the city of Edmonton.

The event provided newcomers with important information on winter safety, cold-weather preparedness and available community supports to help them navigate Alberta’s winter season safely and confidently.

SISSA is grateful for the support that made this event possible and remains committed to delivering timely, community-focused programmes that respond to the needs of immigrant and refugee families in the province of Alberta.
